Our Winter Closet Staples ❄️

Though the weather is wacky in Los Angeles, we’re officially knee-deep in winter, and we here at The Plus Bus couldn’t be more excited for the costume change. Here are the staples we’ll be reaching for all winter long!

Transitional pieces

With the natural and necessary yearly defrost and dust off of our tights and boots collection, our fave summer and fall pieces no longer have to go into storage the moment the temps drop. You can toss on a sweater over that funky, summer maxi dress to instantly winterify it! (And there are all sorts of hacks out there on how to masterfully layer that sweater.) Avoiding bold colors just because the leaves are dead is out, and embracing loud, neon colors from our summer wardrobe is in! (It’s even all over the runways, right now! Trés chic.)

Lightweight, layerable turtlenecks

While the lightweight, layerable turtleneck kiiiiiinda speaks for itself, we wanted to give her a little love, because we know we’ve got one (or three) on deck this winter! Pop this easy piece on under your summer and fall dresses from our first tip, and you’ve instantly got yourself a lewk.

Hats

Finally, an excuse to wear literally any hat you have in your closet or in your online cart!! Whether you’re covering up a bad hair day with a beanie, anointing your perfectly tousled curls with a beret, or getting witchy with a wide, circle-brimmed hat, the chillier months are the perfect time to break out the pieces you were too hot to wear the last few months. Hats can also be the easiest way to create a whole new look out of the same sweater-and-jeans ‘fit you’ve worn a million times.

Statement jacket

Your jacket will never ruin your look if you’ve got one funky enough to work with! Fluffy fur bombers, leather trenches, loud colors — if you can dream it, you should wear it! Puffer coats are especially in this season, so it’s never been easier to look hot when you’re feeling cold.

Try something new in layers!

Winter has aaaaalways been all about the layers, which means there’s no better time to try out a trend or a piece you’ve been on the fence about. Wanna test drive fishnet stockings, but not sure they’re your vibe? Layer ‘em under a midi dress with boots and visible socks (above the ankle, knee-high, thigh-high — the choice is yours!) and voila: you have a foolproof plan for taking those fishnets out for a spin. Worst case scenario, a minuscule part of your outfit didn’t work out, and best case? You’ve got a new fave accessory! Maybe you’ve been wanting to experiment with sheer/mesh tops? It’s chilly out, so why not layer them under a tank or one of your favorite warm weather dresses? Before you know it, you’ve soft-launched your new vibe as a sheer-wearing baddie with no stress.

Are any of these pieces also on your winter bucket lists? Got other trends you can't get enough of? We want to see! Share pics with us on Insta and let us know what your closet is still missing this winter. We've got ya covered. 😌
